TalentMap works with energy producers to maximize their potential output.

The oil, gas and energy sectors have experienced tremendous change over the past decade. The landscape will continue to change as new trends in economics, geopolitics, industry behavior, technology and emissions regulations emerge.

As these shifts occur, they pose a potentially significant threat to the energy industry. TalentMap is aimed at converting these challenges into opportunities for growth by asking and answering the questions:
  1. How do we keep our people?
  2. What can we do to improve productivity?
  3. What can we do to gain a competitive advantage through our people?

Our work focuses on a variety of strategic, organizational, and operational issues revolving around, though not limited to, engagement, employee turnover, onboarding, etc. We distinguish ourselves by providing expertise at all levels of the employment lifecycle and offer both high-level strategic advice and supporting hands-on approaches and action planning to improving performance.

We are continuously improving our ability to serve our clients by investing in knowledge development aimed at understanding broader industry issues and trends.

The following is a sample of our clients and a brief description of what was done for them.
  • Energy
  • Oil and Gas

Energy

Large Western Hydroelectric Producer
The client is one of the largest electric utility in Canada. Our work included collection of data from more than 5,000 employees which included about 3,500 online employee surveys and 1,500 paper-based surveys. TalentMap’s work included all of the project management and logistics to print, distribute, collect and collate the paper survey. It also included the survey design, hosting and data collection of the online survey from 3,500 online employees distributed via email from a list provided by the client.

Ontario Hydroelectric Producer (ongoing since 2009)
TalentMap conducts an employee engagement survey for 113 of the client's employees. TalentMap helped design and deploy the online survey, collected, analyzed and presented the results to the client's senior executive team. An overall executive powerpoint presentation was prepared along with detailed snapshot reports. TalentMap assisted with a number of focus groups to further clarify the survey results. This assistance led to an action plan that reflected both the client’s business priorities and highly specific issues that could be addressed by specific actions. TalentMap went on to assist with the development of the client's corporate values, which included not only the values statements, but workshops with employees in which the values were translated into department-specific behaviours.

Oil and Gas

Western Oil and Gas Commission
TalentMap has been retained to conduct an annual employee engagement survey for 200 of the client's employees in various locations across the province. TalentMap customized the survey to incorporate and preserve questions from the client’s previous survey. TalentMap helped design and deploy the online survey, collected and analyzed the results. An overall executive powerpoint presentation was prepared along with detailed snapshot reports. The results are being used to measure levels of engagement each year and identify areas for positive organizational change. The client is also leveraging TalentMap’s onboarding surveys to obtain feedback from new hires. The data collected from the TalentEntry surveys is being used to enhance the client's onboarding process.

Albertan Drilling Company
The client wanted to gain more clarity with regards to their employee turnover. Being in the Oil drilling industry is challenging and hiring and training qualified staff can be expensive. To minimize this, TalentMap instituted its TalentExit platform to periodically report on why people are leaving and, perhaps equally important in this case, where they are leaving to. Having some special requirements, TalentMap created a separate system that they could use ad hoc, which allowed them to increase their response rate. With the information that is being provided to them, we hope that the company continues to thrive.
